MORAL RECOGNITION THERAPY (MRT)
Moral Recognition Therapy (MRT) is a systematic,
step-by-step treatment strategy designed to enhance self-image, promote
growth of positive identity and facilitate higher levels of moral
reasoning. It attempts to re-educate clients to display positive habits
and value-oriented behavior based on high levels of moral judgment.
There are a total of 17 steps in the MRT program, 12 of which
are completed within a group setting. Seven groups are provided within
the Center during the course of a normal week on the men's side, and
three groups on the women's side. Each resident (male and female) is
required to enroll in and complete MRT as a condition of residency at
the center.
MRT is a therapeutic approach which stresses the importance
of following rules and morals set forth by society.

HUMAN CHOICES
The Human Choices Program has been provided to
residents of the Transition Center for the past ten years. It is a
unique program which takes approximately ten weeks to complete and
consists of one weekly session, a combination workbook and personal
planner.
The goals of the Human Choices Program are twofold:
To increase the awareness of the participants to their
uniqueness and limitless potential.
To increase their sense of positive purpose and direction,
utilizing goal-setting skills.
In a very real sense, the Choices Program helps individuals
to identify and take ownership in determining their future. Practicing
new thoughts can lead to new habits which form new behaviors.

VICTIM IMPACT PROGRAM
In order to educate offenders about the effects of
crime on victims, families and the community, Great Falls Pre-Release
Services, Inc. has implemented a program which addresses victim issues.
The primary focus of this intensive course is to emphasize
the short and long-term effects of crime. The course begins with
property crime and builds on each crime category until the final class
addresses the aftermath of homicide.

PROPERTY CRIME
DRUGS & SOCIETY
ROBBERY & ASSAULT
SEXUAL ASSAULT |
DOMESTIC ABUSE
ELDERLY ABUSE
CHILD MALTREATMENT
DRUNK DRIVING DEATH & INJURY
HOMICIDE |
|
One of the salient features of this course is the inclusion of
speakers. Often offenders can empathize with victims as many have lead
lifestyles which include a cycle of victimization. This experience may
also serve as a healing method for victims, as their contribution may
prevent future crimes.
This nationwide curriculum was developed by the California
Youth Authority, Office of Victims of Crime (OVC) and MADD.
